Caught the bus into Honolulu to the markets to try and find some vegetables that are worth buying. They are shocking in the supermarkets all look old and past their used by date. Unfortunately they were just as bad at the markets. All I can guess is that they don't grow fresh produce on the Island. It must all come over from the mainland. Then returned by bus to The Ala Moana shopping centre and went down to the big supermarket Don Quijote which is a couple of blocks behind the centre. Did a weekly shop there as on Tuesdays is pensioners day and you get 5% off.
We buy these pineapples from the chinese markets in Honolulu which are already skinned and semi sliced. Much easier to handle when eating them. Delicious, $4.
Tuesday nights sunset. Still haven't captured the big one.
WEDNESDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER.
Walked over to the Ward centre, another shopping complex just further along from the Ala Moana centre. The main reason for that was to go to Bed Bath and Beyond store. A very large store compared to the NZ ones. You could spend hours in there, so much stock over two floor selling all sorts. Picked up a few small things. Back to Ala Moana centre to have a look at Ross's new store. Sushi for lunch in the centre then home to watch some more tennis and then down for our swim.
We have a lot of jets flying out in the mornings and returning in the afternoons. Every time we have been up here since 911 this is what they seem to do to the build up to 911. We feel we are been protected.......
Having our drink out on the balcony looking towards the hills up behind us, sometimes we get this build up of very dark black clouds over the mountains but they don't reach the coast. After awhile they just vanish.
Walking home today we passed this frangipanii tree.. They are looking great this time of year lining the streets.
THURSDAY 7th SEPTEMBER.
Happy Birthday Bev. Hope you had a nice day.
PT went to Macy's department store today to do some clothes shopping for himself. The only time he does that is when we come over here. He won't shop at home.
We are going out for dinner tonight for our 44th wedding anniversary as we always do when we come up to Hawaii.
Flowers in the foyer of the hotel. They always look so nice.
Taken looking out of the glass lift which goes up on the outside of the building. On our way up to the Sarento resturant on the top of the Ilikai Hotel. Going up for our wedding anniversary dinner. As you could guess PT isn't looking at the view. Has his back to it. Our anniversary is the 8th although celebrating it today 7th Hawaiian time but 8th NZ time!!!!
Looking out the eastern side of the restaurant . Can just see a bit of Diamond head in the far distance. and the Hilton lagoon down on the right.
Our usual table looking out of our side of the building to the west.
We came up for happy hour and had a drink or two in the bar before we came to our table which is set in our own little cubicle.
These are our entrees. Mine the shrimp cocktail and in front Peter had a Brocconcini.
Here we are, gosh 44 years....
FRIDAY 8th September
Our anniversary day in NZ so we feel we should celebrate the two days. Although we didn't go out for dinner tonight but had a nice drink on the balcony watching the day go down.
Walked out to the end of Magic Island beach park which we look over from our unit.
Its one of the favourite places for the newly weds to have their photos taken. We see a lot of weddings here and on the beaches. We can be down swimming or sitting on the beach and next thing there is a bride and groom standing there having their wedding photos taken. It is a popular place for mainly the Japanese to come to Hawaii to get married. They are usually just on their own with the photographers . As we walked past them Peter told them it was our 44th wedding anniversary today and the little girl giggled and started clapping us. Cute. This photo was taken on our walk to Magic Island Beach park. Behind the couple is looking back over the yacht harbour to our hotel. Our building is the one behind the groom's head. We are on the right hand wing on the nineteenth floor. We saw 3 wedding couples today.
Went down to the lagoon just before 7.45pm where the Hilton have their fireworks display every Friday. Really spectacular and so noisy. It must really scare the kids. But we never hear any crying.
Well I just seem to be saying the same old thing that we do every time we come up. But then it is just a stay-put holiday so it is just the same old thing but we always enjoy being here. Always a nice atmosphere.
PT just listening to the All Blacks on the radio. Seems strange for us to have to listen to the radio. Just like before TV came to NZ. Gosh that makes us sound old....
I will get some photos next time taken around the beach where we swim, the lagoon and looking up at the Ilikai although you all would have seen them before except the kids might enjoy seeing the area
Was your dinner and pineapples good (also nice photos of the firework's) :)
